Brush Wellman Inc. Announces Senior Management Appointments in its Alloy Products Business Group


Alloy Products is Brush Wellman's largest business group.

In this new role, Hipple now has senior management responsibility for alloy manufacturing and commercial activities, which includes the company's two main product groups, alloy strip and alloy bulk. He also now serves on the Brush Wellman Inc. Board of Directors.

He joined Brush Wellman Inc. in 2001 as Vice President, Alloy Strip Products.

Prior to joining the company, Hipple served as President of LTV Steel Company. In his 26 years with this integrated steel producer, Hipple advanced from a plant project engineer to positions of increased responsibility, including strategic planning, supply chain management, operations, sales and marketing, and executive management.

Hipple is a graduate of Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.

Brush Wellman Inc. announced two additional appointments within Alloy Products.

Ronald S. Walczak has been named Vice President, Marketing, New Business and Product Development, Alloy Products. In this newly created role, he now has responsibility for Alloy Products marketing and new business development, as well as senior management leadership of the Alloy group's technology and manufacturing technology organizations and initiatives on a global basis.

Walczak joined Brush Wellman in 1999 as Vice President, Alloy Bulk Products, following 20 years of general management, and sales and marketing responsibilities for performance materials business units of Allied Signal, Inc., General Electric Plastics and Occidental Petroleum.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Clarkson University in New York.

Mark M. Comerford has been named Vice President, Sales and Commercial Operations, Alloy Products.

Comerford joined Brush Wellman as Managing Director of Brush Wellman (Singapore) Pte Ltd. in 1998, with responsibility for expanding the company's role in Southeast Asia. He transferred to Cleveland in 2001 to assume the role of Vice President, Sales - Strip Products.

His experience prior to Brush Wellman includes general management, sales and marketing and metallurgical assignments with Carpenter Technology, NGK Metals Corporation, American Brass, and Inland Steel.

He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering and materials science, and earned his MBA at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.
