Specifications for SupremEX 225XE and 225XF Provide Aerospace
Engineers with New Design Options
MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 9, 2018--
Materion Corporation (NYSE:MTRN) announced that the Society of
Automotive Engineers - Aerospace Material Specification Nonferrous
Alloys Committee (SAE-AMS) has approved AMS4369 specification for
SupremEX® 225XF metal matrix composite (MMC) and AMS4379 for SupremEX
225XE MMC. This represents the second AMS specification for SupremEX
225XE and applies to the extruded form of the material. With the two
recently added specifications, the company now has a total of four AMS
specifications for its SupremEX line of products, allowing engineers to
reference a national standard for material properties.
SupremEX MMCs offer a balanced combination of properties by combining
ultrafine silicon carbide reinforcement with aerospace aluminum alloys.
The composites offer benefits over conventional alloys because they
provide the lightweight properties of aluminum with outstanding strength
and stiffness. MMCs are ideal for aero-engine components and aircraft
structures for commercial and military applications as well as satellite
structures, optical systems and automotive pistons.
“We understand the importance of having AMS specifications for aerospace
applications and are proud to add our third and fourth for SupremEX
metal matrix composites,” said Clive Grannum, president, Materion
Performance Alloys and Composites. “These materials are ideal for
aerospace applications and give engineers more materials options that
meet their properties requirements and enhance their designs.”
